A video background in Slack huddles, on your Mac

Updated October 2026 · checked against Slack huddles's own documentation

Short answer

Slack doesn't offer your own video as a huddle background. Its huddles help covers reactions, effects and stickers, not custom backgrounds (checked October 2026). Choose Backdrop Cam as your camera in Slack and the huddle sees you in front of your video.

Why a virtual camera works in Slack

Slack takes whatever camera you choose. Backdrop Cam delivers finished video with you already cut out, so Slack doesn't need a background feature at all. It works in the Slack desktop app and in Slack in the browser.
