Which video-call apps support video backgrounds?
Checked against each app's own help pages in October 2026.
Short answer
Only a few apps play your own video behind you: Zoom and Webex do, and Discord does for Nitro subscribers. Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, Slack and WhatsApp stop at blur, images or presets. A virtual camera such as Backdrop Cam adds video backgrounds to all of them at once, because every app simply sees a camera called Backdrop Cam.

"Partly" means with conditions: a subscription, a plugin, or a fixed set of presets.
One background for every app
Each app keeps its own background library, its own file limits and its own hardware requirements. Backdrop Cam works one level below them: it's a macOS camera extension, so you pick a video once and it shows up in Meet on Monday, Teams on Tuesday and FaceTime with your family, with the same cut-out.
Pick your video in Backdrop Cam
Click the Backdrop Cam icon in the menu bar, then the background thumbnail. Add a clip with +, from Photos, or by dragging a video file in. Click a tile to use it.
Choose Backdrop Cam in the app
Every app has a camera setting. Pick Backdrop Cam there, once.
Turn off the app's own background
Set the app's background effect to None so it doesn't cut you out a second time.
Questions
Which video call apps let you use a video as your background?
Zoom and Webex accept your own video files, and Discord does for Nitro subscribers. Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime (macOS), Slack huddles and WhatsApp don't.
How do I use the same video background in every app?
Use a virtual camera. Backdrop Cam adds Backdrop Cam to your Mac; choose it in each app once and switch the video from the menu bar.
Does a virtual camera work in the browser?
Yes. Backdrop Cam is a normal macOS camera, so Chrome, Safari, Arc, Edge and Firefox can all use it.
