Privacy policy

Effective 2026-10-31

The short version

Backdrop Cam doesn't collect, store on a server, or share any data about you. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no telemetry, and it doesn't need network access.

Your camera

Backdrop Cam reads your camera only while an app is using Backdrop Cam, or while you're looking at Backdrop Cam's own preview. Frames are processed in memory on your Mac (the cut-out runs on the Mac's GPU and Neural Engine) and passed to the app you chose. Backdrop Cam doesn't record or save camera frames.

Your videos

When you add a background video, Backdrop Cam keeps a copy in its own folder on your Mac so the background keeps working if you move the original. Nothing is uploaded. You can remove videos at any time; uninstalling lets you keep or delete them.

Settings

Your choices (selected background, camera, quality, edge softness) are stored on your Mac in the app's preferences.

The apps you call with

Google Meet, Zoom, Teams, FaceTime and other apps receive the video from Backdrop Cam just as they would from any camera. What they do with it is covered by their own privacy policies.

This website

This website (not the app) uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages help. Until you choose "Allow" in the banner, it sets no cookies and sends Google only anonymous, cookieless signals. If you allow it, Google Analytics sets cookies to recognise repeat visits; you can undo that by clearing this site's data in your browser. Google's handling of that data is covered by Google's privacy policy. It also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without identifying you. The site is served as static files by Cloudflare, which may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for security.

Children

Backdrop Cam collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
